Centaur (Monstrous Humanoid)
Centaurs are isolationist, and avoid human settlements, preferring to live in the wilderness.
+2 Strength, +2 Constitution, –2 Intelligence.
Large Quadruped: –1 penalty to Armor Class, –4 penalty on Stealth checks, +4 bonus on grapple checks, a +1 bonus to their Combat Maneuver Bonus and Combat Maneuver Defense, encumbrance limits are double those of Medium bipedal characters. Armor costs 4 times normal and has twice the weight, although the cost of magical enchantment is normal.
As a long creature, a Centaur may move through a 5’ wide space such as a corridor without suffering penalties for squeezing, so long as there is always at least 10’ of space for him to fit into. However, while squeezing, a Centaur suffers a -2 penalty when attacking flanking opponents, and suffers a -2 AC against attacks from flankers.
As a quadruped, a Centaur gains a +4 bonus to resist being tripped or overrun, as normal.
Undersized Weapons (Ex): Although a centaur is Large, its upper torso is the same size as that of a Medium humanoid. As a result, they wield weapons as if they were one size category smaller than their actual size (Medium for most centaurs). Due to not having large arms/hands Centaurs ignore the normal –1 penalty on attack rolls for large creatures.
A Centaur employing a lance or spear deals increased damage when it charges, as if it was a rider on a mount. A centaur may qualify for some “mounted combat” feats without needing the normal prerequisites.
Centaurs require three times the normal Human amount of food and water. Centaurs may consume tougher food than humans (although not grass), and to some extent require roughage, like oats.
Gain +9 hp at level zero, instead of the +6 hp medium sized creatures get.
Select one of the following two feats as a bonus feat: Endurance or Run.
A centaur’s base land speed is 50 feet. (Speed of 5’ on stairs or similar rough terrain, while some terrain may be impassable.)
They cannot climb or tumble. Falling damage is doubled. Centaurs may touch the ground by bending at the waist, and can braid their own tail.
Natural Weapon: Hooves (1d4) (only gain half of STR bonus to damage)
Automatic Languages: Sylvan, Common. Bonus Languages: Elven, Gnome, Human.
